The assessment process is structured, but also paced in a way that is manageable and supportive. Initial appointments focus on gathering a detailed understanding of history, current concerns, and goals. Additional sessions may include testing, observation, and follow-up as needed.
I understand that assessment, particularly in court-involved or high-stress situations, can feel overwhelming. I work to create a process that is transparent and predictable, helping individuals and families know what to expect at each step. Feedback is provided in a clear and thoughtful manner, with an emphasis on practical recommendations and next steps.
My approach is collaborative, thorough, and grounded in clinical integrity. I utilize a multi-method assessment process that may include clinical interviews, standardized measures, behavioral observations, and collateral information to ensure a well-rounded understanding of each individual and family system.
I strive to balance clinical precision with compassion. While assessment requires objectivity, I believe individuals and families deserve to feel respected, heard, and understood throughout the process. My goal is not simply to assign a diagnosis, but to provide meaningful insight that can guide next steps in a clear and supportive way.
I provide assessment services across multiple counties in Southwest Virginia and often travel to meet clients within their communities in DSS, DARS, or CSB offices. For individuals and families who are seen in-office, I aim to create a space that feels calm, professional, and welcoming.
My office is designed to support both focus and comfort, recognizing that many individuals coming in for assessment may already feel uncertain or anxious about the process. The space includes comfortable seating, neutral and grounding elements, and a structured layout that allows for both conversation and formal assessment activities.
To help create a more relaxed and supportive environment, coffee, water, and light snacks are available during appointments. My goal is for individuals and families to feel at ease while also confident in the professionalism and purpose of the setting.
I work best with children, adolescents, adults and families who are navigating complex emotional, behavioral, or developmental concerns, particularly when there is a need for diagnostic clarity, trauma-informed understanding, or coordination with schools, medical providers, or court systems.
Many of the individuals and families I work with are facing situations where concerns are overlapping or not easily explained by a single diagnosis. This may include trauma exposure, significant life stressors, behavioral challenges, or difficulties related to attention, learning, or social development.
My work is especially well-suited for cases that benefit from a thoughtful, comprehensive approach. where understanding the full context of a child or family’s experience is essential in guiding next steps, whether in treatment, educational planning, or court-related decision-making.
